The Fae Worlds

  • Waking An Empress

The curtains opened. Carrie, yawning, rolled, and found someone was opening her curtains for her, which was definitely not normal. She had gone to bed alone, right? Doing her best not to make too much noise, even though it didn’t make sense that a burglar would be opening her curtains, she slid her hands down her body. Instead of wearing her favourite comfy pyjamas she was in some sort of night gown. Was it made of silk? It felt like it was made of silk. Something else making no sense. Before she was ready the person who’d been opening her curtains turned to look at her.

  • The Coffee Shop

To begin with Adrian stood outside, looking through the window of the coffee shop. It was well known as the place where humans with Fae magic went if they hadn’t got into the school, and from what he could see he was beginning to think the Council really had made a huge mistake. He’d already been certain it was a mistake – he just hadn’t know quite how bad it truly was. At least three people had real wings, not just glamoured ones, there were more people with shapeshifter blood in there than he’d ever seen before, and, thanks to his cousin Naida, he could see someone who was part…

  • Unexpected News

The door to his father’s study was closed, which was unusual for so early in the morning. For a moment Leif stared at it, thinking about maybe knocking, before making the decision that wasn’t what he wanted to do. If the door was closed there was a reason for it. As it wasn’t unusual for people to keep things he should know from him he made the decision eavesdropping was probably the better choice. Knowing more about the castle than anyone else helped. He made his way round to a room he knew he’d be able to hear the whole conversation from, doing his best to move fast without seeming…

  • The Book

The Duke’s Ball Richard stepped over to join me, leaving Adriana in the arms of Cowal. They were talking to each other, and it was obvious from the tension in her body she wasn’t comfortable, but she also wasn’t stupid enough to push him away. I hated seeing them together. Knowing who she was, and how he could use her, it was all I could do to stay where I was, so I wouldn’t break cover. She didn’t know I knew. It was something she kept to herself, scared of people who might use her.

  • Talking to Willow

An Explanation Their eyes met across the table. Brennan raked a hand through his hair, responses coming to mind he didn’t want to say, because it was Willow. Yet the choices she’d made… he breathed in deeply, and she smiled. Did she know what he was feeling? It seemed likely, knowing what he did about her, so she was waiting patiently for him to work through his emotions.

  • Rescuing the Trapped

Dawn coloured the sky in pinks and peaches. Standing for a second I looked down at Stormrock, seeing the town as it could be rather than as it was, Mile’s imagination helping to create the place we all wanted it to be. Turning, I got my first sight of the flaming metal ship which was minutes from crashing into the ground. I didn’t stop to think. Sprinting for the door nearest me, the hospital, I threw it open. “We’ll likely have some injured people coming in soon, Alex.” He stared at me. “Something’s coming down from space, and it’s not looking good.” For a second he continued to stare at…

  • Freed

The Stowaway “We aren’t throwing her out the airlock.” The captain’s frustration was obvious. Carefully testing the bindings Ginger tried not to let either her or the ship know she was conscious. Most would still be stunned, and it was her chance to be able to do something, although she had no idea what. Taking over a ship with the tech it must have wasn’t a simple process. Most over any attempt didn’t work, leading to more problems than it solved. “Sometimes you’re too human for your own good.” The ship sighed. “I understand why you believe you should take her to the authorities, but it’s likely to be harder…

  • An Explanation

The Unexpected Both Megan and Scott looked over, but only for a second, and then did their best to act normally. Eleanor glanced at Willow, who smiled. Then, after gently resting a hand on Eleanor’s shoulder for a moment as a reminder of her support, Willow left the lab. Explanations were Eleanor’s task. She raked a hand through her hair. When it came to when she needed to talk about there were no right words. Not being open made sense, considering the situation, but it could easily cause problems now the truth needed to be told. At least some of it. Keeping how she’d ended up in the lab a…

  • The Guide

Watching Reaching the bottom was a relief. Every time Keeley was dropped from one platform to the next she found herself panicking for a few seconds, certain she was going to end up falling all the way down. It didn’t matter how many times she’d successfully dropped from one to the next. The further down they got the easier it was to see how far they had to go, and she’d focused on the fact she did have someone there to help her, because she would have fallen all the way to the bottom if it hadn’t been for Jack. At the same time Keeley couldn’t help wondering why he…

  • Watching

Trapped Keeley was the first to arrive. That was good. It was also expected. Had things gone differently Alban would have wondered if they truly had the control they needed, but it was obvious they did. As he watched her, knowing exactly what it was she’d been expecting, he found himself smiling. She was the one they wanted to be there, the one who could help them fix the things that needed to be fixed, although he knew, considering what they were, that what they saw as things that needed to be fixed were probably what the developers had put in to make the game more complicated. Of course they…
